What I Wish I Realized As A College Freshman! & What I have Learned! | Katiexobeauty Back To School Edition!

Hey everyone! Welcome back! So back to school season is here and college is approaching quickly. I'm sad to see summer go, but it also got me thinking about what I wish I knew as a college freshman. I thought this might be helpful for any of you that are going to college for the first time or even returning as a college student! So let's get into it.

  1.  Take summer classes to your advantage.
I never took summer classes until this summer. My college experience might I add was different from the average students since I went to a community college for the first 5 semesters of my college career. I feel like the classes are the same, but I guess the experience can differ. Anyways during this time I feel like I never took advantage of summer classes. I never realized the benefit of them. Something I wish I took advantage of is summer classes because I wish I could of gotten ahead a bit. I never really realized all the classes I could of taken advantage of.

So if your going to school this fall. Keep in mind all the opportunities you have to get ahead a bit. It's not like your trying to wish away your college experience, but college can be hard, and if you can make it a little easier for yourself and get some credits out of the way why not do that.

2. Look into textbooks early

I remember my first semester I didn't get my books before classes start and I didn't really look into them until classes have been going on for the first week. I remember my first semester I spent $400 in books. Definitely my advice to any college students is to look into your textbooks early. It's mainly a good idea because they are expensive and it is good to plan ahead. Also if you plan ahead you can compare prices and buy from the cheapest retailer. This is something I continually have to remind myself so i get it.

3. Take advantage of career center's

If not all then most school's have a career center. I never really took advantage of them. At either of my schools so far. Career centers are very helpful. They can offer lots of opportunities for you. One thing I wish I took advantage of was internships or even just job shadows because they can be helpful at trying out a field of work and seeing if it really is best for you. The main thing is you can study things for however long you want, but once you get out into the real world it just isn't the same. It's better to know if what your doing or thinking about doing is actually right for you!

4. plan early with classes

What I mean about this is from semester to semester plan ahead. I never realized as a clueless freshman how important planning out your college career/education is. I think it is good to know what your plan would be as a student. If you have a specific major a lot of times your school will map out your degree for you, but if you were anything like my first two years then you might not have a specific major yet and you need some guidance. An advisor will of course help out with that greatly, but also knowing what you need to take and options is what you should be thinking about and thinking about early. Plan ahead so you don't fall behind or so there is just no confusion. Who likes that? no one!

5.  Making friends in college can be easy!

This might sound very silly, but seriously making friends in college can be easy. I found that even my first semester that making friends wasn't that hard. I found if I talked to people in class then I would make more friends. I also found the same thing when I transfered. The thing is that everyone wants to make friends. Just put yourself out there. Talk to random people in your class because you really never know where it can take you.

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you enjoyed hearing about the things I realized and some thing I have learned. I feel like in college I have grown as a person. Good luck to any incoming freshman! Be sure to subscribe and follow me all over social media!

XOXO -Katie
